The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested 11 men who are believed to be involved in hacking government computer systems, in seven raids that took place all across the country.

The raids were carried out by a team of officers from the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) around the Klang Valley, Perak, Johor and Pahang after allegedly spying and conducting intelligence on the men.

As according to Sinar Harian, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, shared that the suspects who were arrested were between the ages of 22 and 40-years-old, and that their investigations found that some of them were the administrators of the Anonymous Malaysia Facebook group.

“The arrests were made following intimidation and threats by the group to hack the government’s computer system over the past few years and so far, six police reports have been received nationwide. Currently, the police are still in the process of conducting further investigations to identify the remaining suspects before the follow-up arrest process is carried out,” he said.

He added that all those arrested are suspected of carrying out organised cyber attacks on government and private websites.

This case is now being investigated under Section 4 of the Computer Crime Act 1997.
