The government has agreed to allow non-Muslim wedding ceremonies to be held at the National Registration Department (JPN), Houses of Worship and non-Muslim Religious Associations starting 26 February 2021.
In a statement released by JPN, this decision was made to enable non-Muslim wedding ceremonies to be held after being delayed due to the MCO 2.0. This applies to areas under MCO, CMCO and RMCO, however, wedding ceremonies under EMCO are still not allowed.
In regards to this, JPN has released a list of standard operating procedures (SOP) that are to be followed during these ceremonies:
- For marriage registrations held at JPN premises under MCO, CMCO and RMCO, only 10 people are allowed and subject to the size of the wedding space at JPN premises.
- For ceremonies at non-Muslim Religious Associations conducted by a certified Assistant Registrar of Marriage (PPP),
i) Maximum 10 people (including PPP) for areas under MCO and subject to the size of the venue
ii) Maximum 20 people allowed (including PPP) for areas under CMCO and subject to the size of the venue
iii) Maximum 30 people allowed (including PPP) for areas under RMCO, and subject to the size of the venue
- No social gatherings are allowed at JPM premises during the marriage registration
- Social gatherings at houses of worship and non-Muslim religious associations are subject to instructions issued from time to time by the National Security Council (MKN), Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), Ministry of National Unity (IGP), Ministry of Federal Territories (KWP), and the Local Authorities and State Government Instruction.
