Just a week ago, 19 February, the Education Ministry (KPM) announced the reopening of schools. This has caused many parents and students to rush their preparations for the first day of school, including purchasing uniforms.

Many parents and students have raised their concerns by taking to social media and thankfully, their concerns have been heard and addressed today in KPM’s latest announcement.

In the newly released statement today, 24 February, KPM announced that school students are allowed to wear other appropriate attire if they have not yet purchased their school uniforms.

In their statement, KPM states that it is crucial for all students to wear their school uniforms. However, due to many of the parents’ concerns, they have decided to allow students to wear other attire to school as long as it is “suitable, neat and appropriate.”

“KPM received many inquiries from parents on the rules of wearing school uniforms when the schooling sessions resume. For additional information, students need to wear uniforms to attend school as stated in the Professional Circular Letter 3/1983: School Students Uniforms,” they said in their statement.

“However, taking into account the current situation, KPM would like to inform that students who do not yet have a school uniform are given permission to wear appropriate and neat clothes to attend school.”

KPM will allow students to wear other appropriate attire starting 1 March till 26 March 2021, which is the mid-term school break.
