A man in India who suffered severe injuries in a road accident was taken to a private hospital on Saturday where he was put on a ventilator by doctors and later declared brain dead.
However, according to Times of India, the 27-year-old man named Shankar Gombi “came back to life”.
On Sunday night, Shankar’s body was sent to a government hospital for an autopsy while his family made the necessary preparations for his funeral. When they were about to conduct an autopsy, doctor’s noticed goosebumps on his body.
“A senior officer in the post-mortem (autopsy) room who was prepping for the procedure said that he observed movements. On closer examination, he found that he was alive,” Shankar’s family members explained.
A doctor said when he touched Shankar, he noticed goosebumps on his body.
“This means there were sensations in the body. I checked with a pulse oximeter and I checked his heartbeat. There was a pulse,” Dr. G.S. Galagali said.
The doctor then said Shankar was admitted to a private hospital for further treatment.
As reported by Times of India, Shankar was responding to the treatment and his vitals were normal on Tuesday.
“I am told there is a chance of his survival and he is responding to treatment. I have done more than 400 post-mortems in my 18-year-old career but never seen a case like that,” Dr. Galagali said.
