Yesterday (3 March), the flyover construction of the SUKE (Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway) on MRR2 near Desa Tun Razak collapsed and caused several casualties.
An initial investigation found that the accident is believed to have occurred when a trailer passing through the MRR2 Highway had collided with an iron frame during construction on a footbridge.
A factory van with five people inside including the driver got trapped under the rubble resulting in the tragic death of two women. One of the survivors, Zakiah Yaakop, 51, was contacted by her husband while she was stuck under the rubble, reported Astro Awani.
“She said she did not suffer any serious injuries but had difficulty moving.”
All the victims were locals aged between 30 and 45 years old and the dead victims were two women who were factory workers. Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Crossing Project Sdn. Bhd (PROLINTAS), the developer for the SUKE construction project in a statement confirmed that there was an incident of a road accident involving a trailer truck carrying more load colliding with the SUKE construction scaffolding late yesterday afternoon.
In the latest update, the trailer driver who was handling the vehicle when it collided with the flyover was found to be drug-positive. The 40-year-old suspect was found to be positive for methamphetamine after the Dang Wangi IPD issued a urine screening test.
