According to Reuters, video-sharing platform YouTube has taken down the state network, MRTV (Myanma Radio and Television), as well as the military-owned Myawaddy Media, MWD Variety and MWD.
“We have terminated a number of channels and removed several videos from YouTube in accordance with our community guidelines and applicable laws,” a YouTube spokeswoman said.
This removal comes during the anti-coup protests, with 38 people killed on 4 March, according to The Wall Street Journal. According to the demonstrators and medics, the military forces opened fire at the protestors in many cities, the number of actual casualties are expected to be far more than reported.
Besides, Facebook also banned the MRTV pages in February, while it had previously barred Myawaddy in 2018 when it banned army chief Min Aung Hlaing, who is now the military ruler, and more than a dozen other senior officers and organisations on the platform.
Facebook has now banned all pages linked to Myanmar’s army.
Chinese social media platform TikTok is also monitoring its content and removing any content that incites violence, since a TikTok video of a man in an army dormitory aiming an assault rifle at the camera and addressing protesters saying: “I will shoot in your fucking faces… and I’m using real bullets.”.
Previously On 1 February 2021, democratically-elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other leaders were detained by the military forces.
