A woman from Fuzhou City in China had to get her diamond ring cut off after she put on weight and the ring became too small for her middle finger.

According to China News, firefighters had to come to the woman’s aid on 8 April after the woman tried various methods to remove it herself.

The woman said the diamond ring is worth 300,000 yuan (RM189,619) and has been wearing it all this time. However, after putting on about 10kg in over the past six months, she could no longer remove the ring even if she wanted to.

Not wanting to destroy the ring, she tried using a rope and various lubricants to remove it, but her efforts only failed. Her finger had even become swollen and purple!

After understanding the situation, the firefighters inserted several toothpicks between the ring and her finger to create some space. They then used some heavy duty pliers to cut the ring off. After about ten minutes, the diamond ring was removed successfully.

Here’s a video of the removal process:

Yikes! I guess the woman had no choice but to have the ring removed in order to save her finger. At least she can still get that diamond mounted on a different ring.
