Is this the best move while #KerajaanGagal is trending on Twitter?

Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today (16 April) that YB Senator Datuk Guan Dee Bin Koh Hoi will be appointed as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture to replace YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan who resigned as the minister on 29 September 2020.

Unsurprisingly, Malaysians questioned the hiring especially with the nation’s current state amidst the pandemic and the subsequent struggling of the Malaysian tourism industry.

Malaysians brought up that the government should be saving money especially after the PM admitted on 12 April that the government does not have much money from the expenditure that needs to be channelled to the management of Covid-19 pandemic.

Muhyiddin explained that more than RM600 billion was spent in the 2021 Budget and several stimulus packages to help the people affected by the pandemic, as reported by Malaysia Dateline.

“Shouldn’t we be saving now? Is this position so important especially since the tourism industry is struggling? The position is not really critical.”

“There’s no need to replace also as the tourism industry isn’t even alive. You mentioned that the government has no money, so are public sector employees expected to donate money to pay this minister’s salary?”

“I don’t even know what the existing ministers are doing and now, there’s a new one with a salary that gives thousands of ringgit. The PM is already planning on cutting the salaries of public sector employees under the guise that the country has no money. Hmmm, what will Malaysians do..”

This issue has fuelled the anger of Malaysians which has led to the uprise of the hashtag #KerajaanGagal on Twitter today.
