CITF Confirms AZ Vaccine Appointment Only Open For 60yo & Above For Now

Looks like those below the age of 60 will have to continue waiting if they want the AstraZeneca vaccines!

The registration for the AstraZeneca vaccine offered only for senior citizens started yesterday (23 May). A total of 1,240,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine injections will be offered and the appointments will be conducted from 7 June to 27 July at several vaccination centres across Malaysia.

Needless to say, Malaysians below the age of 60 have also been waiting for their AstraZeneca vaccine registration as they didn’t get to register the first time around since it was initially limited to those living in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur only.

This speculation soon lead to a viral Whatsapp message being forwarded claiming that the registration for the AZ vaccine for those aged 18-59 will be opened from tomorrow (25 May) onwards at 6pm instead of its set date the next day (26 May).

The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) however, has since disproved the news and reminded Malaysians to only refer to their official platforms for any announcements.

“Currently AZ 2.0 is open senior citizens 60 and above. Thank you.”

Malaysians in the comments section urged CITF to make an official statement to debunk the news that’s been going viral. At the same time, they also demanded the task force to give a clear timeline of when the registration for the AZ vaccine for 18 to 59 year-olds will be opened.

Did you receive the viral message? Let us know what you think about this!
