One of the hardest things parents wish they’ll never experience is the death of a child.

But, sadly, due to the crushing weight of the financial woes on his shoulders, a son committed suicide in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, leaving behind his elderly, sick parents.

Politician, Steven Sim Chee Keong, took to his Facebook page to share this saddening news.

He wrote, “Chinese people say there are three saddest things in the world, namely, a small child losing their parents, a young adult losing their spouse and a parent losing their child. It’s hard to watch, but harder to bear. Uncle Ng is already 78 and Auntie Ng is 72.”

“Both are not very healthy and Auntie has hearing problems. They live in a small, village house in Bukit Mertajam. But all of these could not compare to the extreme pain and sadness of losing their only child recently. Their child who they were depending on to live and love in their old age. Now, it is all gone.”

Their son had allegedly committed suicide due to the stress of financial problems. He had apparently lost his source of income following the implementation of the MCO last year.

“To all ministers who make policies and govern the country, every action you take has an impact on ordinary people. Don’t play with people’s lives. I beg you, do not let the people suffer because of greed for power!”

Steven decided to help the elderly couple by covering their living expenses for the rest of the year and additionally handed them RM1,000.

“I will take care of Uncle and Auntie so that they can live their lives. In the meantime, my office will help them apply for the state government’s monthly welfare assistance. M dear friends, do not give up, no matter what. Hope is there and will always be there,” he shared.

He ended his post by leaving his phone number for anyone who requires his help.

You can contact Steven at +6012-5907 507.

We genuinely hope that Uncle Ng and Auntie Ng heal from their heartbreak and make it through okay.
