LRT Trains Packed After Train Frequency Reduced By Half Due To New MCO 3.0 SOPs

Where is the physical distancing?

On 22 May, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri announced that the current SOPs for the Movement Control Order will be tightened to ensure the rakyat’s compliance. One main SOP is that all forms of public transportation will operate at only 50% capacity and the frequency of operation will also be reduced.

Today (25 May) is the first day of the new SOPs being enforced and it seems that the people aren’t happy that the frequency of train operations have been reduced. Instead of lesser people in the trains, it seems as though the trains are now packed and Malaysians onboard don’t seem to be practising physical distancing.

A Twitter user who works in a hospital called out the government for the new SOPs which has just caused more crowding in public places. She even asked if one needs to leave their houses at the crack of dawn in order to reach their workplaces in time.

“It’s been 15 minutes and the line is not moving and there are no incoming trains. How can this avoid Covid-19 infections?”

While some were blaming the rakyat themselves for not maintaining physical distancing, others were quick to defend them by saying that everyone needs to reach their workplaces on time as not all sectors have been asked to work from home.

If you happened to take the LRT today, share with us your experience in the comments section!
