University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Cheras students have found themselves in a stressful situation lately after their institution insisted on having physical exams, despite the worrying number of Covid-19 cases being recorded daily.

A Twitter user, whose identity has been hidden for privacy reasons took to the platform to voice out their dissatisfaction towards the decision.

The Twitter account has since limited users to view their tweets as of yesterday (28th May). But several other students came forward to WORLD OF BUZZ in agreement with the posted tweet, saying the decision of UKM’s medical faculty in Cheras to move forward with the exams is not only stressful but also putting their health at risk.

One of the students that came forward expressed that the reason given by the faculty staff to proceed with the exams was because there were no exam clusters detected. Hence the exams will still be continued.

The student who wished to remain anonymous said this was the statement given by the university,

“Already sign up for medical faculty, so you’re well aware that you are going to face these such biological hazards in the future.”

According to them, the medicine and nursing students have allegedly been posted to wards where there were plenty of Covid-19 cases. They said the patients reportedly weren’t even put through screening tests for double confirmation and were apparently casually given their results as positive.

The unnamed student then said UKM persists in having a face-to-face exam due to the fact that it’s a professional exam. They said, “Sure, maybe we’re medical students but until we get our medical licences we’re still just regular university students and our health is at stake right now.”

WORLD OF BUZZ has reached out to Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM), Faculty of Medicine (UKM) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) for a statement and are still awaiting a response.
