Jmaleni Saravanan shared a post on her Facebook page recently regarding how she and her daughter, Shakthi, have set up a ‘Care and Share’ corner at Block 170 Bukit Batok West Avenue 8. The initiative started on 1 June and will be there until the end of the month.

According to Singapore news site Stomp, Jmaleni shared that the heartwarming initiative first came about after her daughter’s school, Lianhua Primary, started an ongoing project called Project Smile. The initiative hands out food provisions to children who are less fortunate.

Jmaleni told WORLD OF BUZZ, that the initial idea was to give out cooked food and drinks but due to the ongoing Covid restrictions that were implemented, they’ve decided to set up the Care and Share corner instead. She explained that the Care and Share corner is stocked up once every three days with basic food items such as canned food, instant noodles, and snacks, which her daughter contributed in using her own savings.

“Shakthi is parting with her savings and we will be adding more things to the Care & Share corner,” wrote Jmaleni on her Facebook post.

Even the school volunteers who ran Project Smile came forward to help Shakthi by supplying some biscuit tins. Various people have also helped contribute food items to the Care and Share corner in hopes of keeping the project running and thriving wrote a report by Stomp.

Speaking to  WORLD OF BUZZ, Jmaleni said “My husband and I are immensely proud of Shakthi, she’s learned all this by following good examples shown at home, in school, and even at dance class. I’m grateful that everyone around her was so generous and I think we, as parents, and as a part of society play a huge role in contributing to the growth of our children. Let’s just encourage them positively.”
