Malaysian online entrepreneur, Siti Suriani Wahiddin, better known as Siti Jamumall, and her husband faced an anxious situation last Saturday, 12 June, when they realised their newborn baby was exchanged with another baby.

According to Sinar Harian, the incident was shared by Siti Jamumall on a Facebook Live at 7.40pm last Saturday.

In the live video, Siti Jamumall explained that she had given birth to a baby boy at a private hospital in Shah Alam, early in the morning (2.36am) on 11 June, and the hospital allowed her and her baby to go home the very next day, 12 June.

It was only when she got home did she realise that something was wrong with the name tag that was worn on their newborn’s feet. The name tag had a different mother’s name.

According to Siti, her baby boy was born on Friday, 11 June at 2.36 am while the baby she brought home was born on Thursday, 10 June at 3pm, based on the information written on the tag.

“We immediately contacted the hospital”

Although Siti and her husband were in shock and in a state of confusion, they immediately contacted the hospital in Shah Alam.

“When we returned home, my husband wanted to throw away the tag that was on the baby’s foot. He almost threw it away. It’s a good thing he read the name tag and when he saw the name of the mother on the tag, he noticed it was a different name.”

“This is not a drama, this is reality. Before this, I’ve only seen dramas about children being switched at birth but it really happened to me,” said Siti.

Together with her husband and father-in-law, they streamed their journey to the hospital on Facebook live, in hopes that they would return the baby safely to his actual mother and take back their actual baby.

Upon arriving at the hospital, her husband and father-in-law managed to confirm with the hospital that the baby was accidentally switched.

“The other mother had swollen eyes from crying”

In another live broadcast, Siti updated her viewers by confirming that they managed to get in touch with the other mother who had returned home too with Siti’s son.

The real mother of the baby who was still at the hospital told them that they also did not notice the baby was switched and did not carefully check the name on the tag.

“It was the couple’s first child, and the mother had also given birth through czer (Caesarean section). So, the both of them sat together and fell in love with the baby very much. Thank you so much because my son was with good people,” Siti said in her live.

“When the mother arrived, she had swollen eyes from crying. Both eyes were swollen. She had fallen in love with the child and felt sad that they had to return him. I was silent, speechless.

I don’t even want to be angry about anything. My priority was my son at that time… there is wisdom that can be learned from this incident,” Siti added.

As they have both breastfed the baby in their arms before the exchange, both mothers developed an attachment and affection towards each baby, Siti explained.

The case was successfully resolved after the two of them exchanged their babies again with the cooperation of the hospital.

Siti said this incident was a lesson for her and all mothers. She also thanked all parties, especially netizens who prayed for her son to be found again.
