It’s such a joy to see our fellow Malaysian students excelling on an international platform!

Two students from the Keningau Vocational College recently made headlines for having their written works published in a British-based literary magazine.

Adra Cheery Sumping, 19, wrote the piece “Turn the Tide” which spoke of the hardships in life following the economic deterioration of the Covid-19 pandemic. Her poem urged readers to explore alternative sources of income in this time of financial turmoil. Meanwhile, Fredo Foo Sau Yi, 17, wrote a short story titled, “Struggle” which tells the story of a restaurant waiter who loses his job but persists in seeking new career opportunities with his cooking skills.

The theme for this second magazine edition heavily emphasised the concept of a “Reset,” which refers to starting a new and better life after facing various crises caused by the pandemic of Covid-19. The virtual launch ceremony for the magazine was held on 27 May 2021 via Zoom, as reported by Sabah News Kini.

Apart from Adra and Fredo’s pieces that represented Malaysia, the magazine’s collection also included written works and art created by writers and artists from the United States, Germany, Australia, and India.
