Could this be exactly what Malaysia needs right now?
With the current political climate in Malaysia, it’s safe to say, Malaysians are tired of the never-ending incompetency and constant politicising that happens. Tired of the government, A Malaysian named Kenneth Chai decided to take a bold step and start his own political party!
The Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (SAINS) started out as good-natured ribbing towards the political situation and scenario in the country. However, the group decided to move past that after realising that many Malaysians are politically homeless.
Backed by science and reason
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, founder of SAINS, Kenneth said that the existing political parties are mostly race or religion-based, full of old men who have been entrenched for far too long or exist as a conduit for one person to become PM.
“We need a party that transcends all these and provide a platform that focuses on evidence-based policies backed by science and reason, not what colour your skin is, or where your ancestors worship.”
SAINS aims to unite Malaysians of all gender, ages, beliefs and culture. According to their website, 48% of the party comprises women while 52% of the party comprises East Malaysians.
Today (9 June) is definitely a big day for SAINS as they formally submitted an application to the Registrar of Societies (ROS). The party is founded as a home and platform for Malaysians who believe in implementing evidence-based public policies that are backed by science and data. In fact, this party will be the country’s Science Political Party where meritocracy is enshrined in its constitution, in tandem with a needs-based and evidence-based approach in policymaking.

Aims and Flagship policies
Kenneth added that for now, their flagship policies include:
- Building an Anti-Poverty Nation that aims to eradicate poverty through guaranteed monthly income for the bottom 60 (B60) communities.
- Establishing a Human-Centered Economy that creates more opportunities for decent work, fights income inequality, and ends cycles of poverty for a more equitable post-pandemic Malaysia.
- Sustainable Development in the country that heeds the universal call for action by the United Nations towards achieving its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within one generation.
Why should Malaysians sign up for SAINS?
Kenneth simply said, if you’re tired of the current political standstill, that’s going nowhere, if you’re sick of the discussion about something you can’t change ― your skin colour, your gender ― be the change with SAINS.
“Let us light the tinder of science and reason towards a brighter political future of Malaysia, led by rational political leaders. We are inclusive, and encourage all Malaysians to speak with us.”
The party that currently comprises more than 250 prospective members and 15 committee members in the Executive Block are also encouraging Malaysians to tell them what they think should be done or how things could be done differently.
