Want To Help Cancer Patients? Here’s How You Can Donate Your Hair For Their Wigs

Hair loss has always been a side effect of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Most of these patients would feel rather sad that they have to lose their hair in an effort to curb their cancer. But there’s something you can do to help. You can donate your hair so that it can be made into wigs for cancer patients!

The Locks of Hope Association is the first association in Malaysia that allows the public to donate their hair to be turned into wigs for cancer patients.

For illustration purposes only.

Here’s how you can donate your hair to them:

Requirements

Firstly, the hair has to be at a minimum length of 6 inches (15.24cm), though they do have a preferred length of 8 inches (20.32cm).

They accept coloured hair, permed hair and hair that has gone through rebonding processes only after six months. They also accept curly hair, and the hair that is being donated should be dried.

They do not accept bleached or damaged hair.

Hair donation form

You will need to download their hair donation form and fill up your personal details. Don’t forget to include your email address so that they can send you your certificate!

You can download their hair donation form here.

Hair for donation

You can either visit any salon and have them tie a ponytail with a rubber band before cutting your hair, or you can visit one of their recommended salon partners.

Place the hair, along with the donation form, in a sealed plastic bag before placing it in an envelope to protect the hair.

You can then send it over to the Locks of Hope Association’s office at:

LOCKS OF HOPE ASSOCIATION
No.29-2, Jalan Temenggung 19/9, Sek 9,
Bandar Mahkota Cheras,
43200 Kajang, Selangor.
Malaysia

TEL: 010-806 2447

You can check the courier service’s online delivery status to track your package or you can wait for the Locks of Hope Association to post a name list on their Facebook page, once they have processed your parcel.

You can also email them your full name (in capital letters) and your IC number to receive your e-certificate.

Donate money

The process of having the hair sent to China to be made into wigs can be costly, leading a wig to cost over RM800, hence a little monetary help can go a long way for the Locks of Hope Association.

You can donate to them here:

Bank: Hong Leong bank
Account number: 21500045722

Remember to save the receipt and send it to them once you’ve made the donation!

“Hair loss is one of the most traumatic side effects that most chemotherapy patients face, especially female and child patients,”

“In line with its tagline, ‘Look Great Feel Greater’, the Locks of Hope Hair Donation Campaign is brought to Malaysians by MMIS Professionals to provide a platform for Malaysians to donate their hair to be turned into wigs for cancer patients who are going through chemotherapy,” they shared on their website.

The least we can do to cheer up these patients is to donate our hair when we cut it.
