The Ministry of Health (KKM) has confirmed that there are still many critical Covid-19 patients who cannot be placed in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) wards due to congestion and the lack of beds, reported by Berita Harian.
In his recent Facebook post, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that patients who could not be placed in the ward now had to be placed in the Emergency and Trauma Department at hospitals around the Klang Valley.
Unfortunately, he also mentioned that a large number of Category 3 and Category 4 Covid-19 patients who require oxygen assistance have to be treated at MAEPS Low-risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre.
“The number of Covid-19 patients, including those suspected or likely to be infected, is very high and shows no signs of decreasing, especially in the Klang Valley,” he added.
However, Dr Noor Hisham said, several measures have been taken by KKM to overcome the problem such as increasing the capacity of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Children’s Specialist Hospital Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) to treat Category 4 and 5 patients as well as outsourcing patients who are not infected with Covid-19 to other private hospitals.
“Let’s stay strong and hope that this pandemic will come to an end,” he also wrote.
