Senior Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein shared on his official Facebook page today (30 July) that Saudi Arabia has donated over one million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines and 4.5 million units of medical supplies worth about RM21 million (USD 5 million) to Malaysia. In a press conference after the handing-over ceremony of the medical supplies from Saudi Arabia at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia, Hishammuddin said, as quoted by The Star,
“On behalf of Malaysia, I extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for ensuring that the contribution arrived only days after His Majesty King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud decreed that the King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Action (KSRelief) provide urgent assistance to aid our country in facing challenges posed by the pandemic, including medical supplies.”
He also elaborated that this support from Malaysia’s international allies is proof that the country is getting recognition for how we are handling the Covid-19 situation here.

The foreign minister noted that Malaysia so far had received contributions from other countries as well, including the United States, Japan, China and the United Kingdom. He believed that the ties between Malaysia and these respective nations remain strong, especially going through the pandemic.
