We can definitely see where these parents are coming from!
Malaysian school students are still confused as to whether they will have to go back to physical classes in their respective schools starting 1 September. Despite the Education Ministry’s (MOE) decision, parents of these students are not happy with sending their children to school especially based on the current Covid-19 numbers.
These parents have come together to start a petition urging the MOE to postpone the opening of schools on 1 September. As of 13 August, the petition has garnered over 80k signatures with parents pleading the ministry to postpone the event till Malaysia has achieved herd immunity.
The petition was started before the PICK’s decision on vaccinating 12 to 17-year-olds with medical conditions and with no medical issues based on age de-escalation. One of the signatories said the decision was not thought out by the government and will lead to the endangerment of the teachers and students’ lives.
“Blood is already on the hands of these callous morons. Let’s not allow them to spill more blood, especially those of our teachers and students.”
“The situation is far from safe for our children in the schools. We are still far from achieving herd immunity. The adults are not following the SOPs to stay safe, including the politicians.”
“Many business units are being asked to close temporarily so why should we risk the lives of our future leaders??”
Should schools continue to reopen considering the latest vaccination decision? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
