Over 1,100 Orang Asli Test Positive For Covid-19 & 12 Deaths In Perak District

A total of 1,159 Orang Asli residents in 23 localities in the Batang Padang district were subjected to the PKPD starting because they tested positive for Covid-19. As reported by BERNAMA, Director of the state Health Department, Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming said there were 12 deaths of indigenous people recorded as a result of being infected with the virus.

She said the cause of the infection started from the Orang Asli people who worked in the factory where there were Covid-19 clusters before spreading it to their respective communities. She elaborated,

“Infection control measures are carried out through isolation and treatment at the Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine Center (PKRC) Sungkai specifically for Orang Asli patients. Besides that, control is also carried out through the implementation of PKPD in all Orang Asli villages involved.”

According to her, until yesterday, her team recorded 10,221 or 45.5 per cent of Orang Asli throughout Perak who had received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine. In line with the National Covid-19 Immunization Program (PICK), the target is to get about 80 per cent of Orang Asli adults in Perak to receive at least one dose of vaccine. Dr Ding mentioned that the target can be achieved by the end of August 2021.
