It’s no secret that Malaysians aren’t happy with the current political climate of our country.
With the consistently rising number of Covid-19 cases, deaths, businesses shutting down, livelihoods lost and the fact that it all doesn’t seem to faze politicians and the elite, it’s hard to blame the people.
Institut de Publique Sondage d’Opinion Secteur, also known as the Global Market Research and Public Opinion Specialist (IPSOS) recently released the results of a survey showcasing how the people feel about their governments in their respective countries titled, ‘Fracturing Societies and Systems‘.
The study shows that 55% of Malaysians believe that the country is in decline.
On top of that, 70% of Malaysians have concluded that traditional parties and politicians do not care about people like them and 63% believe experts in Malaysia do not understand their lives.
Additionally, 75% of Malaysians feel that the country’s economy is rigged to benefit the rich and powerful. 80% of Malaysians also believe the country needs a strong leader that can take the country back from the rich and powerful.
“Malaysians, along with citizens in other countries believe that the system is rigged against them. Politicians do not care about them and experts are out of touch with people. A majority of Malaysians believe that there is a need for a strong leader to take the country back,” the study wrote.
And honestly, with how things are going, these Malaysians’ concerns seem valid.
But with that, we shouldn’t give up fighting for what’s best for our country and our fellow Malaysians. If we can ever put our differences aside and come together, we will be able to restore the harmony that was once prevalent in our childhoods.
