“You guys can really be actors,” Uncle Kentang said.
Once again, some people are trying to take advantage of the kindness shown by generous individuals by lying about their situation in hopes of getting the help that they don’t really need.
Kuan Chee Heng, also known as Uncle Kentang, recently shared on Facebook that he was approached by two people who asked him for money but failed to give him important information when he inquired further, making him suspect that they were lying.
Asked for RM2,000 for her baby’s hospital bills
In the first case, he said a woman called him. She was crying as she told him that her baby was suffering from terminal cancer at the National Cancer Institute.
The woman said the doctors told her to take the baby home, but she didn’t have the money to pay the RM2,000 hospital bill.
“She asked me to lend her RM2,000 and said she would give me 5% in interest,” Uncle Kentang wrote.
“She cried bitterly. I felt so sad for her.”
“I went to bed early last night because I wasn’t feeling well. I was going to visit her in the morning to give her the money. I wasn’t going to ask her to pay me back.”
However, Uncle Kentang later found out that the baby had been discharged from the hospital, and when he asked the woman for an address, the woman said she “didn’t have one.” She only said she lived somewhere in Ulu Ampang.
Wants RM800 but has “no house address”
In the second case, a woman from Kelantan called Uncle Kentang while crying as well. She told him that her fiance was ill and needed RM800 for his medical bills.
“She cried like it’s the end of the world,” he said.
Uncle Kentang then asked the woman for her address so that he could call the police to find out more about the situation.
But the woman said there was “no address”.
“Even graves are numbered. Where can people live in a house without an address?” Uncle Kentang said in his post.
“Please don’t try to deceive me any more. The world is full of fraud these days. We really have to filter it carefully.”
“Your weeping and acting. You should really be nominated for an Oscar.”
Uncle Kentang is certainly smart enough to not fall for scams like these, but the fact that people still dare to trick him of his money is absurd!
