What an amazing gift for Malaysia on our national day!
Malaysian paralympic Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli just bagged a gold medal at the men’s F20 shot put event today (31 August) at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics!
The 31-year-old finished in first place after successfully throwing the shot put to a distance of 17.94m in his third and final try, which is also the new world record.
In fact, he broke the world record even with his first throw where he managed to get a distance of 17.31m!

Ziyad will be bringing home Malaysia’s third overall medal from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics after Bonnie Bunyau Gustin bagged gold at the Men’s 72kg category on Saturday (28 August) and Jong Yee Khie’s silver medal at the men’s 107kg powerlifting event yesterday (30 August).
Meanwhile, Ukrainian pair Maksym Koval and Oleksandr Yarovyi won the silver and bronze medals after throwing a distance of 17.34m and 17.30m respectively.
Congrats Ziyad! Thank you for the amazing National Day present. Malaysia is super proud of you!
