The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is planning to allow students of higher learning institutions (IPTs) to return to campuses for the 2021/2022 academic session.
According to the Minister of Higher Education Noraini Ahmad, this planning is in line with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri’s announcement on 22 August, where students are allowed to return to their campuses respectively once they have completed vaccinations.
This move will be applied to the IPTs in all Phases of the National Rehabilitation Plan (PPN).
“To make this agenda successful, this afternoon I have met YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Health Malaysia to propose for students and staff of IPT to be given priority to get vaccines in their respective locations,” she said in a statement on Facebook yesterday.
She also added that the ministry’s goal is to provide a safe campus community by October.
Noraini said the ministry had projected that 1.296 million vaccine doses are needed to vaccinate 648,000 students. In addition, the ministry proposed that the vaccination centres (PPVs) at IPTs be converted to specifically designated PPVs for IPT students and staff.
For now, there is still no official announcement on the reopening of university campuses for face-to-face interactions yet.
