MOE: Teachers Who Reject Vaccinations Will Be Prohibited From Face-to-Face Teaching

According to the Ministry of Education, teachers who refuse to get vaccinated will be banned from teaching and interacting with students face-to-face.

Minister of Education Datuk Radzi Jidin said that the measure was taken to ensure the safety of the school. “We are taking this step to ensure that parents are confident that the school environment is safe for their children,” he said, according to BERNAMA.

Schools will reopen a month later on 3 October 2021. Radzi Jidin added that the ministry would issue assignment guidelines for unvaccinated teachers, and they are discussing with the Public Service Department on actions against the teachers who reject vaccinations.

He also said that 73.71% of school support staff have been fully vaccinated and 89.43% have received at least one dose of the vaccine jab currently. Other than teachers, Radzi said that the other school support staff such as canteen workers, cleaning staff and security guards at schools must also be vaccinated.

On Friday (3 September), Radzi held an engaging session with the parents, school staff, and teachers in Perlis. The session was targeted to gain parents’ insights on the schooling of their children, as the state is entering Phase 3 of the National Rehabilitation Plan (PPN).
