Mount Kinabalu & Other Tourist Sites Reopened To Fully Vaccinated Individuals Starting 16 Sept

It’s finally time for fully vaccinated individuals to gear up as Mount Kinabalu is now open to the public for climbing activities! However, this opening only extends to individuals residing in the same district as the populated hiking spot.

According to Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin, all Sabah Parks stations and offices (TTS), including climbing activities to the summit of Mount Kinabalu have been reopened to the public since 16 September, reported BERNAMA.

According to the Sabah Parks website, the opening dates for other tourist sites are as follows:

  • Turtle Island Park, Sandakan – 20 September
  • Bohey Dulang Island and Tun Sakaran Marina Park, Semporna (opening date to be announced soon)
  • Kimanis Sub Station, Crocker Ranger Park, Keningau (opening date to be announced soon)

These locations are only open to visitors and climbers who are completely vaccinated, residing in the same district and are aged above 12 or below 70. 

Additionally, the number of visitors is limited to 100 people per day for each destination (each Sub Station & Island respectively), according to the website.

“All activities allowed within the Park are subject to the standard operating procedure (SOPs) of the TTS in line with Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) which was updated on 11 September,” Datuk Jafry Ariffin.
