Malaysia’s former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Recovery Council, with ministerial status.
In an official statement, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said that the appointment was agreed by the Cabinet on 1 September 2021 and the appointment had been presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
It also added that the appointment was based on the confidence the government has in Muhyiddin Yassin’s capability in the country’s rehabilitation and rejuvenation of the economy amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Regarding the appointment, Muhyiddin released a statement of media yesterday and expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the appointment, and the King who has granted it.
“I’m honoured to receive this appointment and will do my job voluntarily without any remuneration,” he said.
He added that he will support the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force to ease up the opening of social, economic, educational and religious sectors as well as creating community awareness in compliance with the new norms, as the pandemic is transitioning into the endemic phase.
