A couple of weeks ago, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had revealed that the interstate travel ban will be lifted once 90% of the adults are fully vaccinated.
As of 3 October, a total of 87.6% of Malaysian adults have been fully vaccinated, while 94.3% of them have received at least one dose of the vaccine, as reported by The Special Committee On Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) via their Twitter post.
From the progress shown, it looks like the road to interstate travel is imminent!
Ismail Sabri has once again assured the nation that once the vaccination rates among adults have reached 90%, interstate travel will be allowed immediately, which will happen really soon. He stated that he understands many of the population here haven’t returned to their respective hometowns to see their parents, and some haven’t been able to do so since the implementation of the very first Movement Control Order (MCO) back in March last year.
“If I did not return to my hometown for a week or two, my late mother would’ve cried on the phone.” he added, emphasizing on how he understands the feelings of not being able to see our own parents for more than a year.
According to Astro Awani, Sabri said that we are nearing the 90% mark of Malaysian adults being fully vaccinated, and once there, he will personally announce the approval to travel between states.
“We won’t restrict the movement forever. We’ll allow interstate travels once we’ve reached the quota in terms of the vaccination rates.”
Additionally, he also explained that the 90% mark is to ensure that no states are left behind once the interstate travel ban is lifted. The government does not want to leave the states behind that still have a lower percentage the vaccination rates among adults. This explains why they are waiting on the 90% mark as they believe each state’s average would be more than 80% once we hit the intended mark.
Recently, Sabri has also announced Malaysians can expect to travel overseas by December this year, or even earlier. He had also shared on his Twitter and revealed that My Travel Pass will not be required anymore once the vaccination rates reach 90%.
We certainly can’t wait for the announcement and we will also like to remind everyone to follow the SOPs under any circumstances.
