The National Rehabilitation Council (MPN) had proposed, during a meeting today, for Malaysia’s borders to be opened to international visitors by 1 January, 2022.
Based on a report by Berita Harian, MPN Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin shared that the move will speed up economic recovery, especially in the tourism sector.
“The meeting also took note of the situation of the country’s tourism sector, which saw a relatively slow recovery due to the absence of international tourists entering the country, apart from operators of this sector who need time and resources to start their businesses,”
“Taking into account the level of achievement of the country’s excellent vaccination program, today’s meeting has decided that the country’s border be opened to international visitors by 1 January, 2022,” he said.
He also added that the MPN had asked the Special Committee on Pandemic Management, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, to immediately announce the countries that have been identified for the purpose of cooperation on special routes and travel corridors.
