The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Datuk Rosol Wahid has assured Malaysians that the issue of high chicken prices and a supply shortage in the market will be resolved by the ministry in another two weeks. As reported by national news agency Bernama, a joint cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture will seek to find a solution to the price hike issue that has occurred in several areas in our country.
A meeting was held between KPDNHEP and the Ministry of Agriculture last week to find a solution for the issue. Furthermore, Rosol, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hulu Terengganu confirmed that several matters were discussed in the meeting, including the consideration of importing chicken to address the supply shortage in order to stabilise prices.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the KPDNHEP Deputy Minister asserted,
“It is not only about the increase in prices but there is also a shortage of chicken supply in the market, for example in Terengganu. Our ministry together with MAFI will find ways to overcome it,”
In the same press conference, Rosol also commented on the issue of subsidised cooking oil packets and admitted that there was a shortage of supply in the market as producers have not been able to produce after they did not receive subsidy payments from the government. He then assured that KPDNHEP will be discussing with the Finance Ministry to settle the subsidy payments to cooking oil producers.
