The National Security Council (MKN) has reminded Malaysians that leaving small children alone in a vehicle can be fatal to infants and warned such negligence is a serious offence that will be taken stern action against. Taking to their official Facebook page on Thursday (18 November 2021), MKN warned Malaysians to stop the act of leaving small children inside a vehicle.
The post asserted,
“STOP leaving small children alone inside a vehicle! No excuses, zero compromises. Your negligence can prove fatal.”
Tagging the official Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Home Ministry (KDN) Facebook pages, MKN further added that anyone that is found guilty of negligently leaving small children inside a vehicle is an offence under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. If found guilty, an individual will face imprisonment up to 20 years or fine up to RM50,000 or both.
Malaysia has been rocked with many cases of an infant’s death due to negligence in the past. Back in March, a 3-year-old boy tragically died after being left alone in a car for four hours without ventilation by his kindergarten principal.
Let MKN’s warning be a reminder to all of us to always be thorough and double check our vehicles before leaving.
