M’sians Furious That Sabah Students are Forced to Cross Dangerous “Bridge” to Get to School

We’ve often heard of the journey that our parents and grandparents have gone through just to go to school.

However, that is the story of the olden days and with how times have changed, one would think that it would not exist in the current era.

On 10 January 2022, BERNAMA posted a series of photos where primary school students in Sabah were seen crossing a bridge that looks like it can fall off at any moment.

It is said that the students are from Kampung Nelayan, Sandakan Sabah Tengah and they are studying in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sibuga Besar.

Their dangerous journey to their school on the 1st day of the new term was pictured in the series of photos.

Of course, the tweet has gotten the attention of many as they believe that this should not be happening in the 21st century.

“We hear stories like this in the 60s during our parents’ times. NOT IN 2022.”

“This is not to get an education, this is the MP not doing their job. Don’t normalise bad practices on the pretense of studies or religion. This is wrong and it will always be wrong. We are not in 1970, this is 2022!”

Some netizens joined in and said that relevant politicians should do something about this bridge.

“How can the leaders be happy with the thousands they get as salary but can’t even repair a bridge like this? Is it true that the lives of the rakyat are meaningless in their eyes? Please repair this bridge.”

Others made the big contrast that is Kuala Lumpur and rural areas.

We certainly hope that the bridge will be repaired soon and maintained regularly. Even though it is encased in a net of metal wires, it seems very dangerous for the children to cross it.
