Amidst the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine that has been universally condemned by the global community, one unlikely party has called upon both countries to end the crisis diplomatically which is the Taliban.
As reported by Euro Weekly News, the Taliban, which is currently the legitimate government of Afghanistan or the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ as they put it has released a statement urging Russia and Ukraine to ‘resolve the crisis through dialogue and peaceful means’.
In the statement, the Taliban asserted,
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and expresses concern about the real possibility of civilian casualties. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan calls for restraint by both parties. All sides need to desist from taking positions that could intensify violence.”
Furthermore, the statement also stressed that the the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan adopts a foreign policy of neutrality and called upon both sides of the conflict to resolve the crisis through dialogue and peaceful means. They also called upon on parties of the conflict to safeguard the lives of Afghan students and migrants in Ukraine.
