We are pretty sure that a lot of Malaysians are eagerly waiting to go to Thailand after not being able to do so for more than 2 years. How popular is Thailand among Malaysians? Well according to the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Nongyau Jirundorn, as quoted by The Star, about 4.1 million Malaysian tourists visited the country, second only to China. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has also recently announced that Malaysians will face no issues entering the country soon as the MySejahtera digital vaccination certificate is recognised by Thailand. Nongyau explained,
“Our government has clarified to the Malaysian government and its people that we accept the certificate from Malaysia, so we do not anticipate any problems. The recent case in the Philippines was unfortunate as there had been no problems for the earlier batch of tourists. For travellers, we do advise them to always print out a hard copy (of the digital certificate) besides showing it on the app.”
She also mentioned that steps are being taken to curb the spread of the virus in Thailand. With the ‘Test and Go’ initiative, travellers who arrived in the country will be tested and they are free to go anywhere if their results are negative. Then on the fifth day, they need to be tested again.
Nongyau also clarified that Thailand is already well-prepared to welcome visitors from Malaysia when the Thai-Malaysian land borders reopen soon.
It can be scary at first to travel overseas for the first time since the pandemic happened. However, if we follow all the procedures and practice steps to curb the spread of the virus, we will be able to travel with peace of mind. So, jom jalan-jalan!
