Firefighters in Singapore rescued 14 cats from a burning flat on Thursday (21 April 2022) and had to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in order to save them. Unfortunately, one of the cats did not make it but the rest survived and are currently doing well.
As reported by The Straits Times, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at Block 422 Fajar Road, Bukit Panjang at 8.30am. Firefighters then force their way into the maisonette unit and used three compressed air foam backpacks to extinguish the fire.
The rescuers then found the 14 cats, all of which were unconscious on both floors of the unit due to the smoke. Thankfully, some of the firefighters were trained as emergency medical technicians and they were able to provide oxygen and conducted CPR on the cats. 13 cats eventually regained consciousness and one of them unfortunately died.
Meanwhile, SCDF also evacuated 20 people during the operation as a precaution. Investigations are currently ongoing as to how the fire started.
