The Transport Ministry is set to impose a ban on heavy vehicles from using highways for a period of five days during the upcoming festive Aidilfitri period. The ban will be imposed in two periods, which are from 30 April to 2 May 2022 and from 7 May to 8 May 2022.
As reported by Harian Metro, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong announced that the ban will be gazetted soon. The purpose behind the ban is so that traffic would be smooth following the expected increase of the number of vehicles on highways as Malaysians go back to their hometowns during the festive season.
Wee Ka Siong asserted,
“I have signed the order, which is similar to the ones imposed before this whereby it will imposed three days before Hari Raya and two days after. When it is gazetted, all permit owners, especially commercial vehicles are bound by the order.”
The Transport Minister further said that there is an announcement system in place for the ban and the vehicle specifications for the ban is similar to the ones imposed in the past.
