Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has clarified that the company has had to delay repairing non-functioning facilities at its public transportation stations because of several factors. These include the supply of replacement parts being affected by the lockdowns in China.
Specifically, the temporary closure of a factory in Shanghai due to Covid-19 lockdowns in the country has caused supply of replacement parts to not be available to conduct repairs. Hence, several MRT and LRT stations in Malaysia had to do with non-functioning facilities for a while longer.
As reported by Free Malaysia Today, Rapid also announced that as of 20 May 2022, the facilities at its trains stations were at 96.5 percent for lifts and 90 percent for escalators. Moreover, the process of maintenance will be completed in stages.
Here’s a breakdown of when commuters can expect the maintenance of facilities to be completed:
- Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT route – 30 September 2022
- Kelana Jaya LRT – 3o September 2022
- MRT Kajang route – 30 September 2022
- Monorail – 31 July 2022
In the same statement, Rapid Rail also apologised and expressed regret over a video that had gone viral on social media showing commuters facing difficulties at Ampang Park LRT Station due to non-functioning facilities. The company stressed that its operations team will always ensure the personnel at stations are more alert to quickly give aid to passengers needing specific assistance.
