One of the greatest things about social media is its power to reconnect people.

We’ve seen social media work its magic with reconnecting long-lost siblings, parents and other family members. One Malaysian man is hoping for the same outcome.

Rain Lee took to his Facebook page in an effort to locate his birth family after he was adopted at birth.

He wrote, “I’ve spent years thinking about my birth family, my biological mum, my biological dad, whether I have siblings, biological cousins, who they are and whatnot. I want to know what hereditary traits I might have gotten from them too, DNA tests don’t tell every single thing.”

He conducted the DNA test for two reasons, for his health and in hopes that it would help identify his birth family, but the test only managed to help him find his second cousins.

“DNA test [showed that I’m] second cousins with those that have the surnames Lim, Tan/Chen, Wong and Sim/Shen. However, these may not be my birth surname.”

“But mum, or dad, or my siblings if any, or cousins, when you end up seeing this post, I really hope that you’ll at least let me know that you are safe and okay,” he added.

Many would ask what prompted him to start his search for his birth family, to which he explained, “With all that’s going on in the world right now, I decided, I can’t wait forever. I’m worried. Yes, I might not have spoken to any of you before, but I’m worried every day, what if something happened to any of you, and I never get to meet any of you?”

“Time does not wait for us, I’m worried one day, I might be too late.”

He also clarified that his adopted family gave him the green light to start his search.

“To my adoptive family, please do not take this as anything on you. It’s me. I want to find my birth family and know them. Yes, I have obtained consent and agreement from my parents to find my birth family,” he explained.

Rain’s adoptive parents have never met his birth parents as they proceeded with the adoption through a doctor.

“They liased via the doctor at a clinic, so they never had contact with each other. He (the doctor) has since stopped his practice, so he says there are no more records that he has access to,” Rain told WORLD OF BUZZ.
