Nearly 10,000 individuals who registered for Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in Kelantan did not turn up to receive their Covid-19 vaccine jabs as of yesterday. According to Berita Harian, those who failed to show up were mostly the elderly aged 60 and above.
State Health Department director Datuk Dr. Zaini Hussin said one of the reasons for their absence was due to health problems as well as postponing the injection date. Some failed to attend because they had personal problems and even more provided no reason whatsoever.
Dr Zaini said the authorities would typically contact each recipient a day or two before their vaccination to determine if they can be present at the appointed time. However, not everyone can be contacted since many people have registered through the MySejahtera application, according to a report by Berita Harian.
According to BERNAMA, State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Dr. Izani Husin expressed that this was a disappointment to many parties, including the Kelantan State Health Department, because a lot of effort has been put into arranging the vaccination process. He added that their actions also led to the wastage of vaccine doses.
Dr Zaini said if the recipient is unable to attend on the scheduled date, his department will be in touch with someone else to replace them in order to avoid the wastage of vaccine supplies.
“So far, 19 PPVs in Kelantan have been opened in six districts, namely Kota Bharu, Pasir Puteh, Jeli, Machang, Kuala Krai, and Bachok.
“As of yesterday, more than 340,000 individuals have registered their names through MySejahtera and it is still low for the total population in Kelantan,” he said.
