Ever wondered what it’s like to have pointy elf-like ears like Spock from Star Trek?
Well, pointy ears are now the latest fad among the generation of young people born after the 2000s in China, as revealed by the South China Morning Post.
According to the report, the surgery procedure that is gaining popularity in China is believed to make faces look thinner, slimmer, and younger. And from the social media reactions of those concerned, it appears to actually work.
“It is magic! I haven’t changed anything on my face and yet all my friends said I look different the day I got it done.” This is just one of the many messages that were posted on the lifestyle sharing platform, Xiaohongshu reports South China Morning Post.
The elf ear procedure craze has been confirmed with numerous testimonies made by cosmetic surgery professionals, who report a pique in requests by both men and women for operations of this type, wrote the report.
While the oddly specific beauty standard is certainly a fad, two of the surgeons that spoke to the publication said that eventually, the craze will fade away and suggests that people should think a little bit more rationally before undergoing the procedure.
“I dare to say that after this ‘elf ear’ frenzy, there would be an army of beauty seekers requesting to get their original ears back, just like those ‘online celebrity nose,’ ‘European-style double-fold eyelids,’ etc., that once were very popular,” Yu Wenlin, a doctor at Guangzhou’s Gaoshang Medical Cosmetic Centre, told SCMP.
