With contract doctors all over Malaysia standing up to fight for their rights, the rest of the country have shown their signs of support right alongside them while questioning the Ministry of Health’s (KKM) lack of action. In light of the protest, several doctors donned their black outfits to signify their support for the movement.
PM says it will be discussed in Cabinet meeting
Speaking on this issue during his surprise visit to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) today (13 July), Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said the appeal of contract health officers so that they can be absorbed directly into the civil service, will be discussed in the next Cabinet meeting.
He added that there will be several factors that need to be considered before a reasonable decision is reached. One of the main factors being the cost and financial constraints faced by the government to absorb all the doctors reported Astro Awani.
“It will require almost RM2 billion”
“I have asked this issue to be brought to the Cabinet [to] discuss what is a reasonable decision [that can be made] because it will require almost RM2 billion, there are some limitations. But we will see how we can overcome the situation.”
The Malaysian Medical Association said they were ready to abide by all government decisions on the issue of contract health officers, which is expected to be discussed at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting. Chairman of the Division of Trainees, Medical Officers and Physicians (SCHOMOS) Dr Vijay Ganasan said his party also urged the government to present a long-term solution for the issue.
