33 vaccination centres (PPV) in the Klang Valley will be closed in stages starting 23 August after almost the entire population in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have completed at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
According to a media statement by Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), Operation Surge Capacity was launched from 26 July to 1 August to control the Covid-19 outbreak in the Klang Valley.
Following the completion of the operation, the number of PPVs in the Klang Valley will be reduced, including those involving General Practitioners (GP).
The list of PPVs closing down starting from 23 August are as follows:
The CITF also addressed allegations that GP involvement will be terminated, saying that the allegations were untrue. Instead, they added that the involvement of GPs in the future will be considered in ensuring the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) continues when PPVs are no longer operational at that time.
“CITF takes into account various factors in the operation of PICK, such as the capacity of the Vaccination Centre (PPV), the number of individuals to be vaccinated and the supply of vaccines,” the statement said.
“Current needs such as pandemic control also affect the implementation of PICK as a nationwide programme.”
Additionally, CITF said that details of new requirements like the booster dose, adolescent vaccination (ages 12-17 years) and continuous vaccination for new registrants in the future will be updated from time to time.
“Announcements on the implementation of these and other matters will be made from time to time when more concrete planning based on data, requirements and policies whether new or existing are decided by all parties.”
“The CITF hopes that all parties do not speculate on this matter, but instead look forward and further strengthen efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.”
As of 23 August, 56.9% of the adult population in Malaysia have completed two doses of vaccination while 78.9% have completed one dose.
