Survey: Malaysia Ranks No.1 For Being Most Worried About ‘Coronavirus’ Among 28 Countries

The world is plagued with an infinite amount of problems that cause us to worry – from poverty to global warming, from financial crises to crime and violence. And recently, the biggest worry of all is the Covid-19 pandemic.

But did you know that different countries have more worry about different things?

According to a survey conducted by IPSOS in July 2021 titled ‘What Worries the World’, public opinion on important social and political issues were tracked across 28 countries.

20,502 adults aged 18-74 in these 28 countries were surveyed, with approximately 1,000 individuals from each country.

“This global summary report presents the top concerns around the world, alongside whether people think things in their country are heading in the right or wrong direction,” the report said.

The survey covers 18 issues and gives an overview of what people in 28 countries worry about today.

‘Coronavirus’ takes the top spot with 36% as the most worried about issue among these countries, followed by ‘Unemployment’ (32%) and ‘Poverty & Social Inequality’ (31%).

The survey also ranked the countries according to the respective countries’ biggest worries.

For ‘Coronavirus’, Malaysia is ranked number one with a score of 76%.

Japan takes second place with 59% and South Korea in third place with 57%.

Malaysia also ranked quite high in showing the most concern for the issue of ‘Financial/Political Corruption’ with 51%. Meanwhile, Malaysia ranked last, with only 1% for the issue of ‘Climate Change’.

Additionally, 62% of participants from Malaysia believe the country is on the ‘Wrong Track’, while 38% believe the country is heading in the ‘Right Direction’.
