Malaysia is a beautiful country that is rich in culture and diversity. But, is it one of the safest places to reside in?
According to Numbeo, a crowd-sourced global database of reported consumer prices, perceived crime rates, quality of health care, among other statistics, Klang ranked as the number one city in South-East Asia with the highest crime rate and lowest safety for the year 2021.
Based on the statistics, Klang ranked number one with a crime index of 68.22 and a safety rate of 31.78. Kuala Lumpur comes in a close second with a crime index of 64.88 and a safety rate of 35.12.
The city with the lowest crime rate and highest safety rate is Chiang Mai, Thailand, with a crime index of 23.98 and a safety index of 76.02.
When looking at the crime and safety rate by cities in the whole of Asia, Klang ranked number three right after Kabul, Afghanistan and Damascus, Syria.
Among the 96 cities listed across Asia, Malaysia was mentioned six times for these rankings:
- Rank 3 – Klang
- Rank 7 – Kuala Lumpur
- Rank 15 – Petaling Jaya
- Rank 16 – Johor Bahru
- Rank 32 – Kuching
- Rank 52 – Penang
