In a Twitter posting on 20 November, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin explained the need to get the booster vaccine shot, especially for Sinovac vaccine recipients.
“Why a shorter booster interval for Sinovac (3 months) vs Pfizer/AZ (6 months)? While Sinovac is effective, there is evidence its effectiveness wanes sooner,” he said. A chart of complete vaccination data in categories 4 and 5 admissions by the type of vaccination is attached.

In the chart, it is shown that most of the categories 4 and 5 admissions are Sinovac recipients, followed by Pfizer and AZ recipients. “This is Cat 4 & 5 weekly admissions into Hosp Sg Buloh. That’s why we want you to take whatever booster is on offer,” Khairy added.
Besides, the health minister also said that most new Covid-19 cases are now coming from close contacts (family and friends). “That’s why practising #TRIIS is important, especially INFORM your family & friends if you have tested positive so they can quickly do a self-test,” he said in another tweet. TRIIS means to Test, Report, Isolate, Inform and Seek.
Starting 22 November, individuals can start to register for their booster shot.
