As everyone is already very well aware of and very impatiently waiting, VTL (Vaccinated Travel Lane) to Singapore for both land and air travel will be opened simultaneously on 29th November.
The best thing about this news is that for the first time ever since Covid-19 you don’t have to quarantine upon reaching Singapore!
However that doesn’t mean there are no checks and balance in place. Here are some air travel dos and don’ts (land travel SOPs have yet to be released so far).
Am I eligible to travel to Singapore?
If you are a Malaysian national and are fully vaccinated then YES you may enter Singapore.
- You do not have to be quarantined.
- You would merely need to do a COVID-19 testing.
Children aged 12 years and below who are not vaccinated can also enter Singapore ONLY if they are accompanied by a VTL traveller. Children aged 2 and below do not need testing.
What do I need to do?
Apply for a Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP).
Fully vaccinated travellers who are short-term travellers (holiday-goes or businessman) or holders of long -term pass (student pass, work pass etc) must apply for VTP online at the Singapore Safe Travel Office website.

- You must do so between 7 and 60 days before your travel date.
This application is FOC. You would need to upload your digital certificate of your vaccination.
Do I need to get police permit to travel to Singapore?
No, you do not need to go to the police station for this.
What sort of preparation should I do before travelling?
- You need to remain in Malaysia for 14 consecutive days before entering Singapore.
- You need to register for Singapore’s on-arrival PCR test. This requires payment.
- Two days before your travel time, you must do an antigen test or PCR test at an internationally accredited or recognised laboratory, clinic or medical facility by MOH Malaysia. You, of course must be tested negative.
- You must purchase a mandatory travel insurance with minimum coverage of SGD30,000 for Covid-19 related treatment and hospitalisation costs. Remember to bring along an electronic or hard copy of your insurance policy.
- Lastly, download Singapore’s TraceTogether app. This is just like our MySejahtera.
What should I expect once I reach Changi Airport?
Once you’re done with the PCR test, you must immediately hire a private taxi or car and go to your declared accommodation.
You would need to isolate yourself until you receive your test result which will take 24-hrs. Once you have received your result stating that it is negative, then you can proceed to go about your activities in Singapore.
Do I need to wear a mask in Singapore?
YES. It is mandatory in Singapore for everyone aged 6 and above to wear a mask. So please wear a mask at all times as soon as you step out of your accommodation.

The implementation of this VTL was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Singapore counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong.
“As the international borders are slowly reopening and human movements are no longer restricted like before, Johor hopes for a quick rebound in gross domestic product (GPD) and a decline in the unemployement rate.”
Let’s hope that this plan pans out and Johor makes a come back in terms of economy.
