Kelantan MB: State Govt Experienced In Handling ‘Land Tsunami’, Well-Prepared To Face Bigger Floods

The Menteri Besar (MB) of Kelantan, Datuk Ahmad Yakob assured the public that the State Government is prepared to face the eventuality of a bigger flood hitting Kelantan. As reported by national news agency Bernama, Ahmad Yakob said that the State Government under his leadership is well-experienced in the handling of severe flood or as he calls it, ‘land tsunami’ which hit the state in 2014.

Therefore, Kelantan is in good hands should the state face a similar situation that is currently faced by the states of Selangor and Pahang. The Kelantan MB asserted,

“The floods that occurred in Selangor and Pahang were unexpected… It reminds us of the major floods that occurred in Kelantan in 2014… As such, the state government, through the relevant agencies, is making preparation for the possibility of bigger floods following the latest weather forecast,”

The Kelantan State Government allocated RM100,000 for the mission which follows a RM200,000 contribution to Pahang and Selangor which are badly affected by floods through the Serambi Mekah Fund. The former was handed over by Kelantan Khidmat Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Mumtaz Mohd Nawi.

The RM100,000 aid is provided from Kelantan’s State Disaster Fund and members of the mission will go to four locations in Pahang which are Kuala Lipis, Jerantut, Kuala Krau and Bentong.
