Recently researchers from McGill University, Canada conducted a study on smartphone usage between 2014-2020 involving 34,000 participants from 24 countries around the world. Through the study, it was found that Malaysia is in third place with the highest smartphone usage or in other words the worst smartphone addiction. Chinese national consumers hold the first position while the second most addicted country to using smartphones in Saudi Arabia.
The study was shared in Science Direct and focused on young users aged 15 to 35 years with an average age of 28.8 years as well as most of whom were women (60%). Researchers conclude that the diversity of social norms as well as cultural expectations is the reason for differences in how consumers from different countries use smartphones.
According to them, the countries that occupy the last place of the chart, namely Germany and France, are more individual and do not have high cultural expectations. However, what is for sure, the addiction to smartphone use is increasing from year to year showing it is a global issue.
