We’ve heard of many companies overseas implementing a 4-day work week while we look on with envy.
But how suitable is the 4-day work week in the Malaysian work context?
The CEO of Cyberjaya-based tech company Twistcode has gone on LinkedIn to share the results of implementing a 4-day work week in his company for 6 months.

Nurazam Malim says that in terms of productivity, it is at the highest level as they have eliminated Fridays where they usually chill in the afternoon by playing badminton or watching movies.
Now, they work full swing from Monday to Thursday and with 3 days of the weekend, they are better prepared to face the following work week as they have time to do their readings or just to charge up their energy.
Nurazam added that he had warned his employees to not reply to any emails or messages he sends during the weekend unless it is a really urgent situation such as the company being on fire or on the verge of an explosion or a minister is asking for urgent help, etc.
“With this, they’ll learn about ‘urgency’ – something that not many companies teach.”
The tech CEO’s 3rd point is that having more days off personally gives him more inner peace as he can take his time to sort out the company’s problems such as operating a supercomputer, quantum programming, reducing operation costs and many more.
In terms of salary, there was no reduction even when working time has decreased, in fact, Nurazam says that he tries to increase the pay from time to time so that his employees will have salaries that are on par with overseas roles.
Now, we have come to the most important question and that is,
“Should Malaysian companies adopt a 4-day work week?”
In response to that question, the CEO believes that it is not suitable for all industries and he told WORLD OF BUZZ that he will speak about that at length in the future.
Other than that, he has announced that the 4-day work week will be permanent at Twistcode and urges other companies to try it out as well.
